Socialrific - Directory Innovation

Socialrific, powered by phpLD, is one absolutely TERRIFIC directory where you can list your websites with a screen shot and link to your social media pages as well. In other words, add your sites to Socialrific.com and your customers will find you!

We sat down with Rick (a.k.a. Bertamus) to find out how phpLD makes Socialrific.com tick. Actually, from where I was sitting I couldn’t see Rick. He may have been standing or…

Anyway, here is what Rick had to say:

phpLD: What inspired you to create Socialrific.com?

Rick: I was looking up a local company and found their phone number. I called but it was busy. I then tried to find them on any of the social networks out there like Twitter or Facebook but I couldn’t find that info anywhere. I finally found their website address and, within their page, I found links to their Twitter account. I ended up connecting with this company through Twitter and got my questions answered. I then knew there was a need for a new kind of directory; one that lists all of the pertinent information but links to their social networking profiles as well.

phpLD: Ah, so that is what makes Socialrific.com a "next generation directory"!

Rick: Yes. Older generation directories tend to only list links to websites and that’s it. Some will also display a small description and most aren’t too pleasing on the eyes.
I think of Socialrific.com as a “next generation directory” because of 3 main criteria:

1. It looks good.
2. It displays as much information as it can and
3. It displays up to 28 of a website’s or business’s links to the most popular social networks on the net today. This makes it really easy to connect with a website or business. For example, it also makes it easier for a website or business to gain more Twitter followers or “likes” on their Facebook page. It’s a win-win for both the visitor and the website/business.

phpLD: Why did you choose to power Socialrific.com with phpLD?

Rick: After researching the supposedly “top directory scripts” currently available, I finally decided to go with phpLD for three main reasons.
The main reason why I chose phpLD was because, after visiting their forum, seeing how they treat their customers, and witnessing firsthand the great support they were giving their customers, I knew phpLD was for me. I knew that when I purchased phpLD I would get all the help I needed from their support staff and the rest of the community, and I did.
The second reason why I chose phpLD was the fact I could choose from many mods that would make my directory function the way I wanted. With phpLD and its mods, I can make my site look and function like the most expensive scripts available today.
Finally, the third reason was price as I am bootstrapping my business. Paying a high price for something almost exactly the same as phpLD seemed ridiculous to me.

phpLD: How did you first learn about phpLD?

Rick: I first learned about phpLD when I visited a web directory that had a link at the bottom stating it was “powered by php link directory”. I was curious as to what script that directory was using.

phpLD: Was creating Socialrific.com your first experience in using phpLD?

Rick: No. I created a few directories beforehand. Each one I built I learned something new about phpLD. I sold the first two I built that became profitable very quickly.

phpLD: What do you like best about phpLD?

Rick: I like the fact that you can do pretty much anything with phpLD. I mean that. When I think of something new I want to add to one of my directories (Blogirific.com, WholesaleArchive.com, Socialrific.com and a new one called Identb.com) it doesn’t take me long to implement it. The ease of the database structure and smarty template system is just great.

phpLD: What special features on Socialrific.com are due to phpLD?

Rick: Everything on Socialrific.com is due to phpLD. I mean, I use a little JavaScript to spice it up a little but it all comes down to how easy to use phpLD is.

phpLD: How does the phpLD script make it easier for you to maintain Socialrific.com?

Rick: When I first started using phpLD I didn’t know much about php or MySQL databases. Now that I am more comfortable with both I don’t really use phpLD’s backend. When I first used it, I used it extensively from approving/rejecting/editing submissions, creating or editing text on custom pages to creating cron jobs to perform some the operations automatically. It has its own sitemap builder and whole host of other options you can set in the admin panel.

phpLD: How does the phpLD script make it easy for users to add their websites to Socialrific.com?

Rick: It makes it easy and fast. It lays out everything in such a manner that a user can fully understand what info goes where.

phpLD: How does the phpLD script make it easier for searchers to find new websites?

Rick: Like most directory owners, I use categories on my directories so visitors can pick and choose what interests them. I still visit many directories to see what websites are there that may interest me. I mainly use directories either to find exactly what I am looking for or to use it as sort of a “stumble upon” as you’ll never know what you’ll find in any given directory. I’ve found some pretty awesome websites when just browsing a directory.

phpLD: What one thing would you like to tell your subscribers about listing their websites on Socialrific.com?

Rick: I put all of my focus on your business or website. In fact, I spruce up most of the submissions by adding pictures, an RSS feed, their Twitter feed or enhancing their website/business description. I do this for my subscribers as well as my visitors.

phpLD: Socialrific.com is definitely an improvement in web directories. Do you have any plans for even more Socialrific.com features or enhancements?

Rick: Thanks for asking. I do have some cool plans for the near future that I think could help both my visitors and subscribers. Both involve providing even more information both parties could benefit from. I am currently testing how I can automate it all, so I’d rather not announce them for now.

phpLD: How does phpLD make adding new features and enhancements easier?

Rick: The phpLD coding, as well as the great support from both phpLD and the phpLD community. Each of these points really makes it fun for me to use phpLD.

phpLD: Thank you Rick! This has been a really fun and informative interview. I’ve learned about the power of phpLD and found Socialrific.com and some other directories where I can make it easy for my customers to find my business as well as refer them for optimizing their own sites.
