View Full Version : Two questions about PHPLD and reciprocal links

Hello all,

My first post here and very new to PHPLD. Haven't even modified the default templates yet.

1. I read in the features list and on several threads about reciprocal link validation, but I have not seen the following question answer explicitly:

Does PHPLD validate that the reciprocal link in fact links back to my directory as a user on the linking site would expect it to? Meaning, there are no "NOFOLLOW" attributes, no special nofollow equivalents in .htaccess, etc.?

2. This one is a little longer ...
For the sake of argument, let's say I have the domain www .example.com and my directory lives at www .example.com/directory.

I have a network of sites, sports.example.com, travel.example.com, and business.example.com. And for ease of maintenance, I decide as I said to host my network's directory at www .example.com/directory rather than maintain a separate niche directory for each subdomain.

Within the directory I have the categories sports, travel, and business.

I'd like to have a way that when someone submits a link under the sports category, they're required to link back to sports.example.com; a submission under business requires a link back to business.example.com; and so on.

PHPLD should be able to do reciprocal link validation (and whatever else is affected by such a mod) on multiple reciprocal links.

In short, can PHPLD handle different reciprocal links by category?

Thank you in advance.

The short answer to both questions is "no", but certainly a good programmer could work out a solution in both cases.

Welcome! :D

David,

Thank you for the "Welcome!" and the speedy reply.

I noticed in another thread {thread no longer available} that PHPLD does not automatically check that reciprocal links are STILL linking; further, an admin cannot add a link and override the reciprocal link checker.

I believe cvos in the tread offered to contribute to the development. I think these above features are important and I too would be willing to contribute.

Additionally, I would really like to be able to support multiple reciprocal links as outlined in Item 2 of my original post. Maybe I can sponsor that?

Thank you again.

Sure, I'd be happy to talk with you about it and develop a plan with you. I'm also planning on starting work on 3.0 shortly. One item would be building in some functions in the admin CP to automate certain activities such as checking recips.

David,

Again thank you for the speedy reply.

I am a PHP programmer with about 6 years experience and would be happy to talk about working out a plan. Talking via the phone might pose a problem as I'm in Australia, but other than that, I'm game.

Next question about PHPLD, I notice in the submit a link page, there is no username name or equivalent. How do people who submit a link come back to modify their information for whatever reason?

Thanks again.

We do not have a login system for users other than editors, so this is certainly something that may need to be considered for 3.0.

David,

How's it coming with a login system that will allow site owners to submit their listing for consideration in the directory and then return at a later date to edit their listing?

BTW, I have spoken highly about the friendliness and great potential of PHPLD.

Looking forward to what PHPLD can become.
