Random sort or incremental sort mood

I'm wondering if there is anything out there created already for this. I've seen it on other directories, just not here yet. I've seen this two ways.

One is where each time a category is clicked the links rotate down one and the one on the bottom moves to the top.

The second is just a random sort where each time a category is clicked the list of links is random.

I like the 1st one the best though...it gives each client an opportunity for their ad to be on top every 5 or 10 or however many links their are in a category.

People purchasing link ads with the letter z starting their title don't have a prayer against someone with A starting in their business name with an alphabetical sort. Same goes for pagerank. someone with a 0 PR doesn't have a prayer against someone with a 5 PR.
I've had clients ask how their ads would be sorted, and didn't purchase once they knew it was alphabetical as their business name was lower in the alphabet.

Is this a viable mod idea?

Rotatory Links or rather 'fairplay' links, yes brilliant.

This one certainly is better. Would of course have to rotate for both featured and normal listings.

Can this be done? Just wondering if this is possible? If so I'll go find someone to code it, but if not I'll just drop it.

I also would like a random sort. I use it on several of my cgi link sites and it works great. The random should be easier to code than the incremental and is just as fair. Everybody gets an equal chance to be #1 without keeping up with every link's previous position.

in case of the first option, would you start with the links in alphabetical order and then when clicked on that link moves down to the bottom?

in case of the total random link, a rand function could do this!

Random link sorting is now working on our Directory

A new Link "shuffle" will create a random order for the links to be shown.
Simply click "shuffle" again to create a different random order.
Shuffle can be selected in admin panel as default.

Still have to make this a Mod, but should be available soon at the wesece forum.
