If you like phpld and have the idea to run an article directory using the same script (well with some small modifications) then please have a look at my new site.
I did some modifications to run the phpld 2.x versions as an article directory and its working fine.
But not only this, its more a complete article directory solution, because via an article import file you will get every day brandnew articles and there is no need to wait for any article submissions to fill your database. Several times a day our database connects with your database and sends the latest articles straight into your directory.
Finally there is an article submission which lets you submit your own articles and promote your sites to all connected directories with just one click.
Everything is absolutely free and can be downloaded and used with no costs. Oh no wait, for the articles you will need the detail page addon from http://www.monster-submit.com/phpld (http://www.monster-submit.com/phpld) . This can be downloaded for a small fee including many other addons.
