New Version - Call it 0.2
Step 1. Goto to {url no longer available}
Step 2. type in your directory or put 'Top' for all - it is case sensitive
Step 3. Upload the downloaded file to your php link directory folder and go to it in your browser - i.e. mysite.com/directory/export.php
Step 4. Wait a bit... Don't wory if nothing appears in your browser window, but don't close it!
Step 5. Keep waiting...
Step 6. Your done!
The new version will be able to export links and categories. PM me if you want the source.
If you know what your doing with php you could use curl to post to export.php and then save the files directly to your server, skipping step 2. If anyones an example of this just ask.
Please post if you get this working... or don't.
P.S I am still importing links to my server at the moment so the not all links will be exported until at least tommorrow (7 March 06)
the file exported will be in the format:
Content visible to registered users only.

I have just started playing with this. Nice work everybody BTW. I cannot get the dmoz import to work. If you could alter your script so it would export the link information as well, you would be my hero!

Ok great so did you get it working? I will upload the listings exporter in a day or two, I just need all my servers bandwidth at the moment so am just hosting it on my home PC.
I have not uploaded the file that your export created. I however did look it, when I am ready I think it should work.

Please let me know if anyone gets the new version working...
i used /Top/
and ummm.. hahaha i was well over a GB of download. on the export.php file. I just decided to kill it. Don't know how much longer there was to go, and i definately don't want to hog your bandwidth.
Saved the file as export.php, ran it, but still no luck.
Any solutions anyone?

Did it give an error?
No error, just a blank white browser screen.
When you said leave the browser alone, would 6 hours suffice?

Did you export all the links and categories? If so it could be over 6 hours. Did it do anything to the database (if you look in phpmyadmin)?

I ran this awhile ago......
I used /Top/Regional/North_America/United_States/Oklahoma
It "looks" as if nothing happens. But check the database, I now have 3300 "new" categories. I'm not exactly sure how to use this script..... these are just the categories with no links? And how do I get them to show up on the main page categories?

Did you start with a blank database (i.e no categories to start with)?
Content visible to registered users only.
zootreeves, I exported three branches down. The export file was 41kb, so fairly small. I've checked into the db, and nothing was added.

Content visible to registered users only.
Ah...... nope. I see now how they were inserted into my database. This is a pretty slick script. Not sure that I really need to use it though. But I'm always willing to try out new things!

check the file (export.php), if it was only 41 kb it might not have found any links. The links come straight from http://www.qkos.com/phpLD/, so you can find your category in there and see if it has any sub categories or links.
+ Check phpmyadmin as well

I ran the whole /Top config........ I have a 921mb file that g-zipped up nicely to only 221mb. 8)
I'll upload it later tonight to my server and let it have a go on a new, empty database. Will keep ya posted.

So the database has to be empty for this to work? What about categories? I'd rather have my own cats but whatever works.
i have a pb with {url no longer available}
he export data, but not only here i ask ("Top/World/Fran%c3%a7ais/Informatique/") but other data in Top/World/Fran%c3%a7ais/, i think related cat.
So cat are inserted in database, display in the admin but not in the directory
Probleme with parent_id i think
U have this problem? (last version of pldirectory)

With:
/World/Espa%c3%b1ol/Juegos/Cartas
or
/World/Español/Juegos/Cartas
Didn't work ... perhaps a problem with "ñ"?

Great script but you've forgotten to take the links...
Currently:
Content visible to registered users only.
Should be:
Content visible to registered users only.
Would you mind sharing your script so we know how it works and might help you improve it?

i have ran the file and provide value as Top got the file downloaded, file size was 921 MB, when tried to run on my directory got this error:
CGI Error
The specified CGI application misbehaved by not returning a complete set of HTTP headers.
Either it seems to version issue of PHP or something else..???

You all might want to read this before you do the modifications to your site with this.

This may be a stupis question. I am looking for a dmoz dump. Does anyone have a sql dump they would be willing to share with the dmoz imported catagories and links.Even one they would be willing to sell.
Thanks

Both links in the first post are not working anymore, is there a reason to keep this open?

I have tried, and cannot get this to work. Not sure if it is still a valid mod.

Optimit, checkout : DMOZ Import Mod (http://www.phplinkdirectory.com/forum/showthread.php?t=1181&highlight=Dmoz+Import)
Also, a highly recommended one for newbies who just want a 456 category listing: http://www.iollo.com/software_test_drive/free_php_link_directory_script_categories_sql_dump/
I use this one and love it, never need to touch your directory categories again :)
