As I am pretty new to the directory biz I value all your thoughts on ideas that come across on the boards. Yesterday on whim I made some major modifications to my directory, while the site has virtually exploded in the month or so I have had it as a directory (up from a pr0 to a pr4 and 50+ new submissions a day (to bad many are not Dr Mom approved lol) I wanted to try and alteration that may entice users to use this as a home page, so I added many new features, (via a great script I found but did have to make some alterations) I dded book marks, calendar, contacts, gmail access, the ability to add RSS news feeds with no reader, I place to store Recipes, a task section, and a few web tools. ( go ahead take a peak you do have to make a login to use them) my question is do you think this helps or hurts and has anyone else tried, is so let me know how it is working for you. I did design so i could remove it from the site in a few min lol in case I decided it was a bad idea

I quite like it. Looks like there is something to do keep you hanging around.

When I view your site I get the overall feeling of a community which I think is positive.

I don't think it can hurt but best way is to trial it for a month and see what pros and cons it has IMHO.

I want to add some stuff to my directory as well in the area of content, tools or maybe even the weather - the challenge is to keep it relevant, search engine friendly and encourage people to want to use my directory as a source.

Well done on your additions.

My only problem is you haven’t given any information/sign up benefits to do with these links, so why should I exchange my information (a commodity to you) to view them? Web tools for what?, What kind of recipes? At least get me intruiged about the other side. It all sounds a bit too ambiguous to me. An 'about X , why not sign up?' lead in would be nice.

However there is a 'homely' vibe about it and if you’re still getting people signing up without knowing what they’re signing up for then cool.
