Hi,
I have just installed phpld and am starting to configure and set things up.
When trying to create categories i'm having real trouble.
When trying 'new categories' button I'm getting
''An error occured while saving.
The database server returned the following message:
Out of range value adjusted for column 'SYMBOLIC' at row 1''
When trying the symbolic button it keeps asking me to 'Please select a category.'
Are there any instructions anywhere? Only had an install txt file in the bundle.
LIKE THIS ALOT, HOPE I CAN GET IT WORKING. WILL UPGRADE TO v3 IF I CAN GET ROLLING!!
Thanks in advance!
Cheers,
John

Hi,
I have re uploaded all the files, and still get the same problem- i just can't add categories!
I can set up a new user, but this stumbles at the permission stage, as there is no category other than 'top'.
I have looked at the mySQL database using EMSsqlLite manager and everything seems set up ok.
Can I input the first level category into the DB via EMS perhaps to start it off??
Thanks to Kev for having a look yesterday, who suggested the re-upload.
Any ideas?? I did a search on this forum, and a couple of other guys were getting the same error, unfortunately they didn't seem to make any progress.
Any help gratefully received, and if I can get it all working I will upgrade to V3 or make a donation.
regards,
John

I might be able to give you some help, but will need access to your admin, phpmyadmin and ftp.
David, he has issues with CHMOD'n
His host doesn't allow 777 on the necessary files
i.e.
include/config.php
temp/
temp/adodb
temp/cache
temp/templates
He's sent out an email to his provider to see if they can work this out for him.
(taken care of, sir ;))

Correct me if I am wrong, but the new version does not require 777. Would it be easier for him to just upgrade?

Hmm, Since version 3.02, I have not had to create the adodbetc..files. Nor have I had to chmod anything.
Here are my current chmod settings. They were this way upon upload, and I did not change a thing. All works great!
temp - 755
temp/cache - 755
temp/templates - 755
temp/adodb - 755
include/config.php - 644
Opti, try doing that on a fresh install where nothing exists. ;)

Hi,
Thanks to everyone for their help, especially ANON for having a good look.
Ok, my host will only give me the option to set permissions on FOLDERS as follows: either READ/EXECUTE or WRITE or WRITE/DELETE.
The temp etc folders were set to WRITE/DELETE with phpLD v2 which installed OK, but no categories adding.
I'm quite happy to buy V3 if it will indeed work on my (windows) server with perms set to write/delete as OPTIMIT sugests.
If the consensus is good- where do i buy from?
Thanks again - I may not be able to get back to this forum until Sunday morning (UK), family, dinner yada yada yada!!

JohnW.
As i stated previously, it has worked for me on several occasions, and on different servers. However, I make no promises, as it seems different host set things up a little different. If all else fails, you can always take Microdude up on the free hosting offer for phpLD v3 supporters. You will find his post about it in the supporters forum, and I do recommend it, as I used it for a while myself.

John,
Send a PM to David, Boby, or Microdude to let them know you had a problem with the download.
He got the download. Just needs David for suport forum access.

Hi,
I've had the same problem and I'm running MySQL 5.x. Try to change the SQL mode to ANSI (can be done in MySQL Administrator under Startup Variables >> Advanced tab. Find Use ANSI SQL and check it. Done!

Beckzar
@Optimit
You don't need to give 777 permissions because your script files probably belong to the same user like the apache webserver runs under. If this is the case with 755 that user can write.
Usually the webserver runs as "nobody" (best) or as another user thyan your files ... this is the case when you have to give 777.
