Welcome finch8243,
Can you test it on another server? We've had some issues with PageRank before showing N/A but that was due to a server IP.
Let us know.
PS
Your post was moved due to this being a seperate problem from the thread you posted in. Thank you for understanding.
Regards,
David

I'd love for someone to write a script that allows us to update the pagerank on a per category basis.
Very true about the server ip issue. Google has been known to block automated requests, and it may be they did this on your server for some reason. And keep in mind that using this feature in the script could be considered an automated request, resulting in getting blocked, especially if you are requesting pagerank on several hundred or thousand sites in a short period of time.

so does this blocking impact our overall rankings too? or are the two unrelated?

I don't expect the two are related, but it can be interesting to see what other sites are sharing your ip address. ;)
There are some people who believe Google dilutes the value of links that are all part of one grouping of sites AND are from the same ip, so lately people are often trying to get ip addresses from different c classes.

I have a small hack for this. It wasn't made for PHPLD but was used for another project that I found was being blocked.
I just tested it on someone elses account that has this problem and it seemed to work.
finch8243, if you PM me your FTP/CPanel details I'll patch it on your server so I can test it.
thanks

It's interesting, I just posted a new link (the one at the top below) and PR showed up instantly. Still nothing on the other ones.

Thoughts? It will take me a bit to try alternate servers as I've been swamped this week, but I should be able to get to it soon.

Do this for me.
Step 1:
Open up
'admin/dir_validate.php'
Under
Content visible to registered users only.
Add
Content visible to registered users only.
Step 2:
Under
Content visible to registered users only.
Add
Content visible to registered users only.
Step 3:
Under
Content visible to registered users only.
Add
Content visible to registered users only.
DONE, save the file.
This uses the same function to get PR as it does when you Submit a link.
BUT the way you run it is by going into the Admin and Validating the links. If you opt to validate the Reciprocal than it'll check the PR on that link as well.
You can also download and replace the file with this one if you wish, as always backup the old first. It's RC4.

as this directory grows more popular it will be interesting to see how the Google PR servers react to all the automated queries. I used the Google PR toolbar on firefox for a year with no problems. Google may be selective to whom they allow the display of PR.

I would advise against repeatedly using the above method on the same IP address. we need to work toward a method where people can input their Google API which allows 1000 queries per day.
However, I will let you know that I just used the above successfully on about 300 links.

Yeah I agree David, but this helps when you have so many links that have either been imported or just mass entered without taking PR into consideration.
Just thought I would provide a quick and dirty solution.
I was planning on adding this as a checkbox feature on the validation page but have been so busy lately that I just haven't had time. That way it wont be ran each time validation occurs.

Bingo. Worked. And seems to be ok for me as I only have a handful of links. Thanks.
