View Full Version : Having a problem with 3.03 notification system
I have PHPLinkDirectory 3.03 and I have noted a problem with the email approval/rejection notifications:
I use the submit page to submit a link.
The 2 submit notifications both work fine: both the one that goes to the webmaster and the one that gets sent to the submission user.
However when I (webmaster) approve or reject a link, seemingly, no further email gets sent to the submission user. However, my network spam service manages to catch the email but the From header of the approval/reject email is empty. I have tried this experiment using both PHP mail function and SMTP, the results are exactly the same. Likewise, I doubt this could be a problem with my host network because the submission emails always arrive without a problem. I am convinced there must be a bug in the script. I don't know what else it could be.
Can you advise?

Perhaps...
Have you set up an email notification template to be sent when links are approved?
System>Edit Email Templates
If yes to above then perhaps check if you've allowed notifications:
System>edit settings>notifications
2
Also you'll probably be back for this: No sender name and email address bugfix:
{link no longer active}

Hi Neticus.
As far as I know, all settings in 1 have been enabled but I will double check. I have already been receiving the submit template email as I mentioned above.
I will apply the bugfix for 2 and let you know what happens.
The bugfix seems to have solved my email problem.
Thanks again, Neticus.

Hello.
I see you ware talking about a bugfix for email delivery problem here.
I (dir admin) am not able to receive an email when a user submits a new link.
All other links seem to be delivered fine.
- Any ideas?
- The link to that fix is not available anymore.
Thank you.

adrian, you problem seems like an email template problem, and not a code bug.
make sure you have the templates set correctly.

Optim, thank you for tech support you offered to me so far, it was much more than what I got form the script owner[s].
Anyway...I deleted the script from my site, most probably I will not install it again. I lost too much time, the script was bought 7 weeks ago and after 7 weeks I was unable to receive decent support from the owners.
- Variable names (for emails) are written incorrectly on the page where you create new template. Old bug, no one fixed it yet.
- Login form doesn't work right, everyone has problem with that.
- The info under email template also seems incorrect and hard to understand:
"Email template used for notifications sent to link the owner when a payment is received" what is that "to link the owner" ?
- When I try to login to admin panel I get some "smarty" errors and cannot login.
- When I approve, reject a link I am sent to admin main page.
- PayPal button starts one time payment instead of a subscription.
- Admin never receives email ( this is the only problem that seems to happen only to me :) ). I have the box checked in settings.
- One of the versions I received didn't passed by the "select language" installation page. Fixed now.
I am sure there are more problems I already forgot or ignored them.
= In addition to that "David" said that if he looks into it then he will not have time for fun like dancing.
OK David, take my money and go dancing but I never seen this before now.

Yes Neticus, the box for notiffications was checked.
Hey Adrian,
if you don't mind, send me via PM login details to your admin panel and Cpanel or FTP.
I will take a look at it and try to fix it.

Adrian,
Don't give up yet. Sounds to me like you have 3.02 or 3.03. (Very buggy releases). However, 3.04 is a very slick script, and works great.
Take Boby's advice, and let him work on it. If not, hit me up on MSN or Yahoo, and I'll help you through.

Yep, I am from Romania :) from Sighisoara but I'm a student now in Cluj-Napoca.
Contacted you on Yahoo Messenger but you did not respond.
I'll keep trying to contact you again.

Adrian, I see you have received a lot of support here, and that you also posted a negative response here:
http://www.hotscripts.com/listing/php-link-directory-3-3/
As most people know here, a good atitude goes a long way with me.
You have not demonstrated this. You are very close to not getting a refund or any more support. I need a very good answer, or support ends now.
I think adriantnt needs to join the ranks of that vixen00 character and gtfo the internet as well.
and if you can't figure out what the acronym gtfo is, i'll be very very happy to demonstrate.

David, the support needs to start before it can end :)
Leave the off topic comments away and fix the email variable names, login form, smarty errors then you will not have so many clients complaining.
What I posted at hotscritps are only FACTS so you should nto comment about that. In addition to that the administrators like ANON should not go and post commnets on your own scripts.
Anon, I wonder what do users think if I show them that you (administrators) rate your own scripts (5/5) at hotscripts? :)

[QUOTE=David]As most people know here, a good atitude goes a long way with me.QUOTE]
That is a bit incorrect:
- "As most people know here, the commercial version is full of bugs".
- "As most people know online, you need to offer good products and good support in order to avoid negative reviews".
- "As most people know, the support you SHOULD get for a commercial product has nothing to do with the 'attitude' or with the other activities the seller may have (like dancing)".

I don't know why you (David and Anon) have so many comments.
Here are the facts:
- I paid for a script.
- Script has bugs (email template, login form, smarty, pay pal one time payment instead of subscription).
- I told you David about the bugs many times.
- You fixed it ? NO !
Do we need additional comments to that ?
Hey Adrian!
You got from me a newer phpLD 3.0.41 beta that has some small bugs fixed.

Content visible to registered users only. Hmmm, I can't remember someone posting about this in phpLD 3.0.4
If you searched the forum (probably not) you could find the bugfix for the user accounts.

Content visible to registered users only. I don't think so! It works for me on your server. At least after you install please clean the cache in your browser. Also after and upgrade it is good to remove the files in temp/templates/.
Content visible to registered users only. Huh ... this is new :) sorry, I could not reproduce the bug and never heard of this.
Content visible to registered users only. What where you expecting it to do? It does what it needs to do ... make the payment.
Content visible to registered users only. Ok, I have now installed your directory and it is a server problem.
You sent me in the PM that your email server is working only with TO and FROM same server emails. It does also not receiv emails from same address. I've heard about this server issue before, but you can request that from you hoster.
I have installed several phpLD versions on different, well configured servers, and all work fine.
Content visible to registered users only. Do you want them fixed? The post the bugs and we will try to fix them! Where should we know what is not working if you don't tell us?!?!
[quote="AdrianTNT"]In addition to that "David" said that if he looks into it then he will not have time for fun like dancing.
My work for you is now done! You have the directory installed and running. The emailer problem is for you to fix with your hoster.
You are welcome Adrian!
I will let now this thread a bit open, but if I see one more rude comment I will close it!
Kind regards, Boby.
PS for other users: As I wrote above, Adrian got a beta of phpLD 3.0.41 ... please don't ask me to send you one 'couse I won't!
Boby, may i have phpld 3.041, pleeeaase! :D
j/k

Boby's answer speaks for itself.
Adrian, you have a script on your site that took thousands of dollars to produce. It definitely has bugs. Windows has bugs too. We are under no obligation to solve all of your problems, and to be quite frank, you have demonstrated yourself as someone complains continuously, even after we have spent hours helping you. And you haven't even bothered to thank anyone.
I tend to be too patient with people, but I will still offer you help, but only after a formal apology, and a promise to work toward a positive solution, regardless of the amount of time that may take.

That is wrong, if the problem is because of the script then it IS your obligation to solve it.

LOL. And who is "WE" ? I only got support from Optimit ( I said thank you :) ) and Boby I didnt say thank you to Boby yet because I thought we are not done yet :) When did I got support from you David? I must have missed that.
What I heard from you David was:
"- Ok, ask this in forum, but you need to pay $10."
"- Waiting for Boby to come back."
"- Go post in forums."
"- I don't have time, I got to dance."

ok, the login form seems to work in 3.04 but the uses DID have problems with it in 3.03.
When I submit a new link I dont see the radio buttons for link type anymore. "Featured links are enabled".

Well, I did everything on your list above except the payment feature that works like it does now and I have no request from David to change it from payment to subscription.

Try to not use admin panel and regular user the same time. Logoff from both and then use eighter admin panel or the regular user login.
This is because the sessions are cleared system wide to prevent unauthorised use of them after logging off.

You where told before to upgrade to phpLD 3.0.4 ;)

Make sure payment is enabled.

If you payed for the unbranded version and you have no problems ... remove the link to PHP Link Directory.
I thought I was clear enough in my post above that no more rude comments should be posted!
The thread is *CLOSED* for now!
Adrian, if you have something to report please choose the most appropiate forum and post your problems in there, this is *not* an general problems thread.
If someone has a constructive message to post on this thread, please PM me or David and we will re-open the thread.

Is there some deadline we must meet? Who sets that deadline?
Or is it true that you are indeed getting support right now?
Yes, I do have a life outside of phpLD. Maybe that is what you need too. ;)
Adrian, I don't even feel I need to say anything more.
Your actions speak for themselves.
I'm trying my best to forgive you for your actions, and understand your motivations.
Whatever it is you created in your mind, as you can see, you have received a lot of support and direct attention. I assume that is what you wanted.
