multiple domains & mods

I've got a busy site e.g whateverdomain.com and I intend to launch the directory on e.g newdirectorydomain.com. I intend to grow the directory slowly so putting the directory out on it's own new domain will look pretty unattractive (as not many links initially), also the existing dom (whateverdomain.com) has great PR and traffic so it will grow much faster.

three questions

1. can I install directory to a folder like this
whateverdomain.com/newdirectorydomain
and then later, once directory's grown, backup and restore to it's final resting place at
newdirectorydomain.com

2. are there any mods for showing all or part of the directory on another domain? that way I could install straight to newdirectorydomain.com and display some content from newdirectorydomain.com on whateverdomain.com

3. probably more of mod question, but has anyone written any mods allowing you to run a web ring from the directory (ie. to allow other sites to use parts of the directory on their own websites).

#1 as long as your not building inbound links etc then you can just easily export the sql tables and save the files in whateverdomain.com/newdirectorydomain and just either copy over the files you modified after a fresh install.

I don't think I can stress enough make sure you have the database saved properly before you remove the old one.

#2 and #3 That's what rss is for essentially.
