unable to log-in????

Everything installed perfectly but when I try to log in all it does is recycle back to the log in page. The only thing that displays an error is when I clicked on index instead of admin at the end of the installation and it displayed this:
Fatal error: Smarty error: unable to write to $compile_dir '/home2/brent1a/public_html/linklist/tmp/compile'. Be sure $compile_dir is writable by the web server user. in /home2/brent1a/public_html/linklist/lib/smarty/Smarty.class.php on line 1102

why in the world won't it let me log in?

I chmodded lib/smarty directory to 777. Now when I go to 'index' the actual index shows up.
I can also login under admin/admin.....how in the world do I change that?

Ok, so it sounds like you have the first problem solved after you chmoded the file. The only way to change the admin password right now is by going to the user table in phpmyadmin. I'll try to get this added to the next version where you can change it using the admin interface.

Pardon me, but what exactly do you mean by going into the user db? I go into the suer db and it has a box for password, but could you give me some basic instructions on how to proceed from there?

I am referring to going into the users table in the mysql database.
Do you understand?
Are you using phpMyAdmin?

I sucessfully installed the script but got these warnings:

To Lexus :

Before install you have to set up chmod 777 :
1. conf.php
2. /tmp/compile/

I think you have to delete all and then reinstall.

Igor,
Sorry it took me so long to get back. I decided to try the install a second time without uninstalling and it worked. I have nearly everything running now, but have two problems.
1. The search function isn't working in page_main.tpl but works in index.html
2. I am using a black background. I have been able to change all the default black body text {CONTENT}, except on the subsubcategory page where a new title, link, url, description and date are added. Can you tell me what page generates this text.
