Hi,

I'm trying to integrate PHPLD into my existing smarty based site and I'm having a hard time.

Ideally, I'm looking for a smarty plugin where I can just put {phpld} in my template. Is something like that available? That would be great.

Thanks in advance!

I don't know the answer, but I suspect it'll be found at the Smarty Forum quicker than it'll be found here.

The problem is that PHPLD itself uses it's own copy of smarty and thus when I try to include PHPLD's index.php, I get errors abour redefining the smarty class which I can't resolve. I'm not sure, but I thought there's a chance, either the author or somebody else has already tried to integrate it into their existing smarty based site.

Nobody?

I mean does everyone edit the phpld templates to make it fit into their site? I have lots of sites and it would be too much work to edit the phpld templates to fit into each of those sites' designs.

The main problem is phpld's design. Why isn't there a function to just print what I need instead of a complete page? I can't even include the index.php where I need it because it uses global variables like $db which break my CMS.

Are there any plans to fix the design? E.g. move the whole stuff to a class? Furthermore the smarty templates are a pain. Why is there so much logic in the templates instead of using php for it?

I think it is quite possible, but I'm not sure the answer is simple enough to give, or else I think you would have it by now.

If you are able to give a small doanation for a couple of hours of someone's time, I'm sure we can be of assistance.

Sure, I'll donate $20 to the project if someone writes a smarty plugin the lets one easily integrate phpld into their sites.

Hi Ronny,

We're all on different time zones and so it takes us a lil time to respond at times.

All things are possible really, it's normally either about time or money.
I'm leaving in about a half hour, but I'll be back in a few days.

Contact yktan about this, he should be able to nail out something for you.

Thanks

-Casey

Hi Ronny!

Is there already a solution for your problem? I would be also interested.

Greetings,

Hello lapinkulta,

unfortunately nobody has done anything so far. The 4 bugs I've reported aren't fixed either. Somehow, the people in this forum are really fast when it comes to request money or to claim the problems you have aren't bugs. I wish they were as fast in fixing the bugs and adding the requested stuff. If the PHPLD code wasn't such a mess, I would have done it myself by now.

Anyway, if you've found any other reasonable link directory software, let me know, please.

Greets,

Ronny

You are asking for MAJOR changes, and then complaining why we would ask for a donation. $20 would certainly not be enough. It's sort of like saying, "why don't you just put phpbb into a class?". We actually tried that here on Mambo. Mambo and phpBB are widely know apps, yet even putting those two together causes problems. So if you find a script that uses classes that are easily integrated with your cms, let me know, but somehow I don't think you are going to find it, and if you do, it will have been written specifically for your cms.

Lots of people have integrated it into their sites. Integrating with a cms is a whole different issue.

Yes, and it is all done for free on a volunteer basis. If you really want to write a class, then I think you need to plan on spending at least $500, or find a programmer that will do it, and pay them. I'm not aware of anyone that would do it for $20. It would take many hours of work.
