phpLD 4.0 Released

We're very pleased to let you know about our newest PhpLD 4.0 release.

Let's take some time and go through the brand new features that come with this version, and take a look at the manner in which they make the script more robust, more reliable and easier to use than ever before.

WIDGETS:

Widgets are modules that can be installed in several locations on your PhpLD installation and perform a wide variety of actions on your site's database. There's a detailed documentation of how this process works provided for you in your directory's admin area under "Widgets" > "How To Use Widgets". A documentation for users who want to create their own widgets is also available. A number of default widgets come with your PhpLD download but we will also be keeping a database of widgets available for download in our Widgets section.

Some common widget examples available by default in the PhpLD 4.0 zip are:
1. Latest articles, latest links, top categories and so on (they can be displayed within either the left or the right column of your site, in the order you wish)
2. Google adsense banners with customizable size, shape and color scheme
3. Detailed Alexa statistics, compete.com scores and others.

LANGUAGES:

We've taken some time to work on several of our available translations and have brought improvements to the following:
Dutch
Spanish
Arabic
Finnish
Norwegian
French
Polish

ADMIN AREA:

We have restructured some of the sections to make it as easy as possible for the administrator to perform admin operations.

BUGS FIXED:

As it is with all extensive scripts, every once in a while we come across bugs that have somehow escaped our pre-release testing process. We try our best to deal with them as they come up, and perform extra checks every time a new release is on the way. For the 4.0 release we managed to work on the following issues:

1. Sorting problem on link listing pages in the front end area.
2. Slashes showing up in submit forms with unsafe characters, now fixed.
3. RSS front end pagination is now working as expected.
4. We invested considerable efforts in making the database queries safer than ever.

MORE TO COME:

We're currently focusing our efforts into providing you with a wider variety of widgets to include in your PhpLD installations and have also started work on a new project that will make it easier for you to customize PhpLD templates. We're also starting on a new release and meanwhile working closely with our customers, helping them build PhpLD based directories with custom features to meet their product needs.

Best Wishes,
the phpLD Team
