What is an authority directory?
It is a directory that has become a resource that other sites are linking to because they consider it to be a great resource. It is a site people like to visit because they find the information helpful. Google has talked about authority sites ranking higher, but what exactly is needed to become an authority is still somewhat unknown.
How do I make my directory become an authority site?
While the exact factors involved in becoming an authority site are not 100% clear, Matt Cutts had an interesting video where mentions the Katamari Technique where you slowly build your site around lesser terms, and continue to build the resource. As you are able to get traffic for smaller key phrases, you can start to build out your content and be competitive for larger key phrases.
