SEO MistakesSubmitting to sites that have an editorial process like well edited directories can definitely have a positive impact on your search results, but so often people are led to think there is a short cut and today we look at Article Marketing and Article Spinning.

A common black hat SEO tactic is to take articles from other sources and “spin them” into a new article that contains different phrases or organization. The logic behind doing this was to avoid the duplicate content penalty, yet be able to quickly publish content on many different sites for the purpose of acquiring backlinks to help with rankings on Google.

Basically what these article spinner programs do it take an existing article and replace words and phrases with other words and phrases. The more archaic spinners create articles that definitely don’t pass the human test. They are hard to read, and don’t make much sense. Because of this criticism, there has been emphasis on marketing the concept to potential buyers of these article scripts that they are more advanced and they now use Emulated Natural Language that even Google can’t detect (so they claim!).

After people spin articles with these so called SEO tools, they go about distributing them, and the next product they want to sell you is Article Marketing Automation software! What such a product does is distribute the article to 100s or 1000s of sites, often for the low, low price of $20 or similar. So you have these spun articles that contain links and are placed on 1000s of sites. This is one of the best ways to be sure you get an Unnatural Linking Penalty from Google and rank poorly or not at all!

Aside from automated tools a buzz phrase that sounds good is Guest Blogging. People grant each other access to multiple blogs, and it is so called “guest posting” but more often than not it is automated article submission or someone sitting there and cutting and pasting articles on a bunch of sites. And so often the quality of the sites containing the articles is really now, and filled with 1000s of articles submitted by people using the same techniques.

Marketers of Article Spinners and Automated Article Submission tools love to make it sound like your site will rise to the top of the search results but unfortunately it sounds too good to be true because it is not true.
