In this post made back in 2009, there was an offer to add a link to people’s phpLD directory on the LinkFab site, which is no longer in service. So there is not a lot going on here now! But it was interesting while it lasted. Then of course many people replied with a link to their directory, and they were added to LinkFab.

At the time we had an interesting feature. When people submitted their site, we would query the Google PageRank of that site, and if it was not PageRank 1 or greater, then it would be automatically rejected. This was a feature that we had hoped might help directory owners get a handle on the spam which was rampant at the time.

There were all sorts of directory tools that were being offered that would automatically submit a website to dozens or even hundreds of directories in one click. This presented quite a challenge for many directory owners, and surely some of them simply gave up during that time. Sadly, the people that were gaming Google PageRank were “winning” and making lots of money, but the average one person webmaster trying to start and online business what not able to deal with both the spam and being beat out by the PageRank manipulators.
