We have a great new tool going on sale that will help directory owners clear out older listings to URLs that are linking to parked pages, contain malware, or contain other “spam words”. This is a tool that we will continue developing over time, so it will increase in the value of the information you can receive over time. I just ran it on a directory that has about 5,000 URLs that is about 3-4 years old, and it found more than a dozen parked domains, as well as 4 sites linking to malware containing pages.

While there is no hard evidence on this, it is surely a possibility that google chooses to devalue the trust rank of sites that link to parked pages or malware containing sites. Obviously, one of Google’s goals is to send people to pages that are useful, and if your site contains links to parked pages or pages that try to install malware, it would follow that it could hurt your pagerank or rankings or indexing on Google.  

So why would you want to go another moment with junk on your directory when there is a simple way to fix it? This tool is selling for $25. It is a windows application that installs your your Windows PC (we may have solutions for Mac and Linux users soon). You must be able to connect to your database remotely (ask your host if you don’t know what this means). You’ll be given an API key with the app, and for now we are allowing unlimited use of the tool, so you can use it on as many directory sites as you like. As a matter of fact, we would love to see directories across the net cleaned up and even encourage you to help others. We will reserve the right to adjust pricing or bandwidth restrictions in the future to make sure everyone using it can get good service with the tool. The $25 gets you the tool plus the API key, and a minimum of 6 months of unlimited service (though if you start hitting millions of checks, we may need to talk). 🙂
