After using other directory scripts, I was highly sceptical of the claims made about phpLD. What was being offered, seemed too good to be true.
I was wrong! After installing and testing the free version of the script, I decided to pay the $25 for the full branded version and haven’t looked back.
phpLD is fantastic, with features being added all the time. It’s easy to use, intuitive and with the many mods available, it’s versatile. Most people wouldn’t need to mod the script, as ‘out of the box’, it includes many features that other scripts do not.
Most people would think that for $25 the support for the script would be lousy. Not true!
I have found the support to be superb. Support for the script is free, in the unlikely event that you do have a problem, but for just an extra $10, you have an option to join a ‘supporters forum’, where extra support is available from a community of phpLD owners, as well as the phpLD team going the extra mile, often helping owners out with problems they have caused themselves. Extra mods and code are also available there.
Security is taken seriously,with no known issues caused by the script itself. Options in admin, allow for blocking of IP’s, emails and domains from submitting, as well as a configurable captcha in the submission process itself. Spam is always going to be an issue, but with phpLD, you are given all the tools you need to keep it to a bare minimum.
There are 100’s of great free themes available, but a little html & CSS is all you really need to customise the directory. A switch in admin, allows you to change the look of the website with a click, changing to any theme that you have uploaded. The ‘professional’ theme that comes with the script is good on it’s own, but is a great place to start if you want to do your own custom theme.
In short, if you are skeptical, download and try out the free version. You won’t be disappointed. Pay the fee for the full, current version and you will be enthralled.
